1. Position Announcement: Postdoctoral Fellow, The Department of Communication and New Media at National University of Singapore
Postdoctoral Fellow in e‐Health & m‐HealthThe Department of Communications and New Media at National University of Singapore is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow in e-Health & m-Health with expertise in quantitative methods. 
Candidates should have completed a PhD in communication, and/or a relevant social science discipline. They should have a track record or trajectory of internationally excellent publications. Research interests in e-health, communication technologies and health, m-health, health information systems, and/or other health communication areas (e.g., health campaigns and interventions, health information seeking, social support networks, and patient-provider communication) through new and emergent media perspectives are desired. 
They should also have the ability to teach a range of communication courses including but not limited to health communication, new media in health communication, communication campaigns, and quantitative research methods.

This journal welcomes theoretical and empirical research that addressing the development, applications and impacts of information and communication technologies (ITCs) on individu­als, groups, society, as well as cyber law, Internet privacy, and digital divide, etc.
The Journal of Information Society is the official publication of Taiwan Academy for Informa­tion Society (台灣資訊社會研究學會) and aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum for the examination of issues concerning the information society, including communication technology, emerging media, digital humanities, cyber ethics, and cyberculture.
The journal is currently housed in the Department of Communication & Technology at National Chiao Tung University. It publishes two issues per year in January and July.

Human communication gravitates increasingly toward digital and data technology. This trend is rather salient in developing countries like China. Up to June 2017, 751 million (54.3%) of the Chinese population use the Internet, and a majority of them (96.3%) access the Internet through their mobile devices. It is common for users – especially the young generations – to handle every aspect of life and work on smartphones, including reading news, paying bills, ordering meals and getting entertained. It is safe to say the Chinese society has been transformed by digital technology and data.
In concert with the ICA conference theme of “Voices,” our pre-conference focuses on the communication processed reshaped by digital technology and data. We want to focus on the theme whether digital media bring us more voices or divide us into different segmented society? We invite scholars from across ICA’s divisions to discuss their work related to data and communication from various epistemological and methodological backgrounds. 4. Call for Papers: The 16th Chinese Internet Research Conference
Modes of Connection
Date: May 22 & 23, 2018The Leiden Asia Centre, Leiden University Institute for Area Studies, and Leiden Law School welcome scholars from the area studies, social sciences, law, humanities, computer sciences, and from multi-disciplinary backgrounds to the 16th annual Chinese Internet Research Conference (CIRC16), to be held in Leiden, the Netherlands, on 22-23 May 2018. CIRC16 will explore the theme ‘modes of connection’, across social, economic, and political fields.
General Theme: Modes of Connection
The field of China internet research has fruitfully tracked communication patterns across different media types in the Chinese speaking world, generating a lively discussion about the role that different discourses and media types play in Chinese society. The themes of this year’s conference will augment these efforts by asking how media and communication are bolted to the world. The internet has rapidly become much more than a venue for the exchange of information. It is closely intertwined with social interactions, economic exchanges, and the practice of governance. At the same time, concerns surrounding the internet are no longer merely confined to free expression and access to information, they have come to include the impact of the internet on the integrity of political systems, personal data protection, terrorist use of ICTs, and cybercrime. While the notion of connection remains at the heart of what the internet is, there is now much greater complexity in the nature of connectivity that ICTs permit, and therefore the social, economic, and political questions they generate. Consequently, CIRC 16 will ask how different actors deploy novel ICT to transform the modes through which people connect.
Paper and Panel Proposals
The organising committee invites proposals for paper presentations or panels that address one or more of the three themes related to the modes of connection in China, through both critical, theoretically-minded research and innovative empirical methods.
Proposals should be written in English and should not exceed 400 words for individual papers, or 1000 words for panel proposals. Please also include a brief bio and any relevant contact details. Proposals and enquiries should be sent to Dr. Florian Schneider: [email protected].
DeadlinesProposals should be submitted by 1 February 2018. The organising committee will inform applicants of its decision by the end of that month. Full versions of the accepted papers are to be submitted by 1 May 2018. Papers should not exceed 8,000 words, including notes and references, and should be sent to the organising committee via email.
Organization and Location
CIRC16 is organized by Dr. Florian Schneider(Leiden Institute for Area Studies) and Dr. Rogier Creemers (Leiden Law School). The conference will take place at the Kamerlingh Onnes Buildingat Leiden University’s Faculty of Law (Steenschuur 25, 2311 ES Leiden, The Netherlands).
Plenary sessions will be scheduled in lecture theatre A144; panels will be convened in rooms A002, A008, A028, and B016.

Voices of Chinese Scholars Over the Last 40 Years
As the 40th anniversary of Chinese Communication Scholarship is approaching, we invite scholars to participate in the 2018 ICA Post-conference together with the 8th Global Communication Forum: Voices of Chinese Scholars Over the Last 40 Years, with a focus on timely issues of communication and social interaction in China. This post-conference will be held at the 2018 ICA conference site in Prague, Czech Republic. Using this 40-year landmark, this post-conference celebrates past accomplishments while tracing themes and insights into the present as a foundation for innovative Chinese Communication scholarship in the upcoming decade(s).
We look forward to reviewing the past forty years’ dissemination of Chinese Communication discipline with scholars from China and overseas through dialogues and reflections. We will examine and discuss the past achievement, existing challenges, as well as lessons learned from the past through different voices in the context of globalization and localization. We also look into the future of Chinese Communication Scholarship for the next ten years and beyond. Therefore, this combined 2018 ICA post-conference and the 8th Global Communication Forum opens a platform for researchers interested in the Voices of Chinese Scholars Over the Last 40 years. We cordially invite people and scholars from all over the world to share their findings, exchange insights, and make efforts to promote communication research.

Location: Hilton Prague hotelSubmission: We invite scholars to submit: (a) Full papers of theoretical and empirical research papers (25 page limit, including references); (b) Extended abstracts (1000-1500 words, including references); (c) Proposals of thematic panels with multiple papers (2000 word limit, including references) on Chinese communication research, reflective thinking, comparative studies between China and the West, theoretical development in Chinese communication, or empirical communication studies in China.

Language: English and ChinesePaper/Abstracts/Panel Submission and Publishing
1. Papers submitted in English must use the APA format; papers submitted in Chinese should follow the standard of Chinese academic publishing.
2. Please send two copies of your papers, extended abstracts or panel proposals in different Word or pdf files as e-mail attachments to [email protected].
3. One copy of your paper or panels should be masked for competitive review, and the other copy of the paper or panels should contain a cover page with full contact information.
4. The cover page should include the title of the paper, name(s) of the author(s) as well as affiliation(s). If you are submitting in Chinese, please also submit your titles, abstract, and cover page in English as well as Chinese. Once your paper, panel, or extended abstract is accepted, you can submit a revised/final version to the organizers by the deadline. Our full paper authors will also be invited to submit revised versions after the ICA conference for edited book manuscripts to be published by the conference organizers at a later date.
5. Please list (1) title of the paper, (2) name(s) of the author(s), (3) affiliation(s), (4) mailing address(es) and (5) email address(es) in your e-mail.
6. Top Paper Award: Top paper awards (students and professors) will be distributed in the closing ceremony.
*All papers, except for invited keynotes and co-sponsor sessions will be competitively reviewed and selected in a masked review process.

Registration: Registration fee will be $70 USD for non-student attendees and $35 USD for students. The registration fee covers the costs for conference attendance and conference materials, including 1 lunch and 2 coffee/tea breaks. Once your paper/panel proposal/abstract is accepted, the authors must register the post-conference by 31 March 2018, or your papers/panels/abstracts would be withdrawn from the ICA post-conference program. All attendees need to pay their own costs of transportation, accommodation, and breakfast during the conference.

6. Video Competition: What does Intercultural Dialogue Look Like? Center for Intercultural Dialogue
The Center for Intercultural Dialogue has organized its first ever video competition, open to students enrolled in any college or university during the 2017-2018 academic year. To enter, participants must submit a video no longer than 2 minutes that highlights the importance of intercultural dialogue, responding to the question: “What does intercultural dialogue look like?” Entries will be accepted April 15-May 31, 2018.
One winner will receive a $200 prize. The top 20 entries will be posted to the CID YouTube channel, and be highlighted on the CID website, along with posts describing the creators and highlighting each of their videos, throughout the rest of 2018.
Submissions will be evaluated based on originality, clarity, cultural message, effective use of technology, and overall impact. Students can work independently or in groups. Please encourage your students to get creative, show off their skills and have fun with this topic.
