Each year, the annual ACCS banquet dinner is our chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones, all over good food and conversation. This year we will convene in Salt Lake City. Please note that the dinner banquet is scheduled for 5:30pm-7:30pm, on Friday November 9th, right after our ACCS business meeting (2:30pm-4:45pm, Hilton, Alpine West, 2nd level). You are invited! Please plan on meeting in the hotel lobby (Hilton) at 5:00pm and we can all share taxis, Ubers, Lyfts, etc. to the restaurant. We are asking that you plan for roughly $25 per person to cover the costs of dinner (including tax and tip). We also ask that you share this invitation far and wide. Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor, Interpersonal Communication, Purdue University The Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Interpersonal Communication. We seek a scholar/teacher whose research and teaching are located at the intersection of interpersonal communication and social media. Relevant areas of research are not limited, but candidates must demonstrate expertise and continued commitment to the study of interpersonal communication processes in mediated contexts. Examples might include how individuals participate in online communities or the impact of social media on personal, family, or professional relationships. The successful candidate will conduct research, advise graduate students, teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, and perform service. Such a candidate will have a PhD in Communication (or related field) and an innovative program of research in interpersonal mediated communication. We seek a colleague who will develop and teach new and existing undergraduate and graduate courses in her/his areas of expertise and who is able to teach courses that are part of the College’s Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts first-year curriculum (College of Liberal Arts' Integrated Cornerstone). Post Doctoral Fellowship, Communication Research in Tobacco Regulatory Science, University of Pennsylvania The Penn Tobacco Center of Regulatory Science (TCORS 2.0) at the University of Pennsylvania offers post doctoral research fellowships in communication research about tobacco products. The two year fellowship offers training in communication research and theory relevant to the regulation of tobacco products. The mission of the TCORS at Penn is to examine how messages about tobacco products, specifically those identified as “modified risk products” affect health‐related beliefs and behaviors, including misperceptions and false inferences. Communicative mechanisms to correct misperceptions is a second important focus. Fellows will participate in research using survey, experimental, and content analytic methods and will receive guidance in the preparation of manuscripts and career development grants. Applicants must have strong training in communication science (or related field), excellent research methods and have received a PhD or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution. Continuing Non-tenure position in Public Relations/Advertising at Villanova University The Department of Communication at Villanova University seeks applicants for a continuing, non-tenure track position in Public Relations/Advertising, at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Teaching Professor, to begin Fall 2019. This position is renewable but is not eligible for tenure. Basic requirements: M.A. in Public Relations and/or Advertising preferred, M.A. in Communication strongly considered; earned doctorate in related area is a favorable supplemental consideration. Candidates must have successful, content area relevant, college-level teaching experience and demonstrated expertise in public relations and advertising. Assistant Professor in-Residence for Interpersonal Communication and Persuasion at University of Connecticut The Department of Communication invites applications for a non - tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor In-Residence, with a focus on interpersonal communication and digital production. The successful candidate will teach and coordinate large mid-level communication courses and supervise graduate student teaching assistants. The successful candidate will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups, demonstrate the ability to teach students with varied learning styles, and integrate multicultural perspectives into the curriculum. The teaching load will be seven courses across the academic year – three courses for one semester and four courses for the other semester. A one course reduction may be negotiated in exchange for additional commitments to undergraduate advising, curriculum development, and/or undergraduate student organizations. AEJMC MIDWINTER CONFERENCE 2019, March 1-2, 2019 Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication University of Oklahoma Call for Paper Abstracts: The Commission on the Status of Women invites submissions of research paper abstracts of between 600 and 800 words (word count excludes author information and references) that are based on issues of gender and communication. The Commission welcomes papers in which gender is a main analytic focus and invite projects that use a variety of approaches and research methods, including but not limited to critical, empirical, ethnographic, historical, legal and semiotic analyses. Submissions should be done online and by December 1, 2018 at: http://bit.ly/midwinter19. Call for Panels: CSW invites teaching, workshop or research panel proposals. Teaching panels should discuss teaching ideas, challenges, innovations, technologies, skills, etc. that are relevant to feminist teaching and/or considerations of gender in/out of the classroom. Workshops should involve specialized training in emerging and innovative skills and professional development. Research panels should focus on original, innovative and trending research on issues of gender and communication. Call for Submissions: Outstanding Dissertation and Thesis Awards 2019, ICA Interpersonal Communication Division The Interpersonal Communication Division of the International Communication Association seeks nominations for the Division's annual Outstanding Dissertation and Outstanding Thesis Awards. Each award includes a plaque and monetary recognition. Applicants should submit (a) a 25-35 abstract or paper-length version of the thesis or dissertation, and (b) a letter of nomination from the dissertation/thesis director explaining why the project should be recognized.
